Railway Poster Series Continues: Captain Cook’s Monument on Easby Moor

Our vintage railway-style poster series continues its journey across North Yorkshire with the dramatic Captain Cook’s Monument on Easby Moor. Following the positive response to our Stokesley and Saltburn designs, we’re excited to share this third addition to the collection—one that captures both the wild beauty of the Yorkshire Moors and the area’s remarkable connection to exploration history.

Why Captain Cook’s Monument?

Captain Cook Monument holds a special significance for many of our trail users. This impressive 51-foot sandstone obelisk, built in 1827, stands proudly on Easby Moor overlooking Great Ayton—the village where the famous explorer spent his formative years. The monument commands spectacular views across the Cleveland Plain toward the North Sea, creating a perfect connection between Cook’s humble Yorkshire beginnings and the vast oceans he would later navigate.

What makes this location particularly compelling for our poster series is how it embodies that spirit of discovery that drives every Huntee trail. Here’s a monument to exploration sitting in landscape that invites exploration—the perfect subject for our railway poster treatment.

The Captain Cook’s Monument Trail

Our Captain Cook’s Monument Huntee trail takes you across Easby Moor to this remarkable landmark, combining moorland exploration with fascinating insights into both local and global history. The trail guides you through the landscape that shaped Cook’s early years while uncovering the stories behind the monument’s construction and the area’s significance in British exploration history.

Captain Cook’s Monument represents another step in celebrating the diverse landscapes and stories featured in our Huntee trails.

We’re already considering the next location for the series, and your feedback continues to help guide our choices. Whether it’s coastal walks, historic market towns, or dramatic moorland routes like this one, each poster aims to capture what makes these places special for exploration.
