I rise in Cross Fell, high in the Pennines. Tumbling and flowing for eighty-five long miles.

At my journey’s end lies Teesport estuary. Wildlife thrives where I merge with the North Sea

Now, before you nine icons appear on-screen, but on the main graphic which one can’t be seen?

Back to AR scene

Romans and Vikings have settled on my shoreline, and I’ve served as a border for countries and counties through time.

Locally the Viking word ’Beck’ is still often heard. First, you must count how many tributaries contain this word.

Now, find the town whose record high flood level is closest to this number?

Back to AR scene

The industrial revolution saw men develop my shores, and to streamline their progress they altered my course.

Find the primary industry whose purpose I served. Over 1,000 of these were built, though few are preserved.

Back to AR scene

A dragon-like creature once dwelled by the Tees.

On a rural peninsula concealed in the trees.

Now, name the notorious fiend who once lived by my southernmost tip...

Back to AR scene

Though my waters seem peaceful an evil hag lurks here.

Into the river she'll drag those who wander too near.

Her favourites are children, but all victims she’ll drown.

Peg Powler’s her name and she dwells nearest which town?

Back to AR scene

For years disappearances and deaths made locals scared.

And tales of a Headless Hobgoblin were shared.

To put a stop to this monster they summoned a priest.

Now, name the abandoned village directly south-east.

Back to AR scene

Upstream from Tees Barrage you seek a bridge, a crossing, whose single arched construction survived 1771’s great flooding.

If another hint you need, this bridge held a record which it’s since had to concede.

Back to AR scene

The second bridge you seek has been Grade II listed, and the tests of time its many archways have resisted.

Built over a century ago to serve a single traffic source, this brick masterpiece is still admired by locals of course.

Back to AR scene

After almost two centuries this bridge was no longer fit for purpose, so atop its three arches they widened its surface.

In a previous scene you may have seen that a haul of Roman artefacts was discovered in the river near me.

Back to AR scene

Ships been have built on my banks since mediaeval times. From wood to iron, sailing to steam, numbering in their thousands, vessels of all kinds.

Find the longest single-named ship which in this scene is shown, a steam ship which is perhaps the most well-known.

Back to AR scene

The discovery of ore made the iron & steel industry boom, and with new opportunities the population would explode soon.

The industrial revolution caused men to alter the Tees, a time when Middlesbrough became known as the ‘Infant Herclues’.

You seek the single-name shared by both a wharf and an ironworks?

Back to AR scene

In the waters close to Stockton an island once stood, and, but for a shady grove in its centre was covered by woods.

Where flora used to spread the carpet of nature with beautiful flowers, and an old lady in a lone cottage once spent her waking hours.

A rustic bridge was the islands only entry, now find the name of the woman who was the islands lone sentry.
